We are glad to inform you that we are conducting a TOPTECH program on the topic “International Material Data System (IMDS)” on 4th & 5th January 2019 at SAEINDIA Southern Section Office (Subjected to change based on Registration), Chennai.
Mr. M. Prabhakaran
M. Prabhakaran is a Mech. Engineer working as Consultant in Wafes Technologies (IMDS service provider) with more than ten years experience in regulatory product compliance management and has conducted IMDS training session at Automax Ltd, Kalyani Hayes Lemmerz Ltd, Motherson Sumi System Ltd, Bharat Forge Limited, INZI Controls India Ltd, Indo Schottle Auto Parts Pvt. Ltd, Turbo Energy Ltd and L. G. Balakrishnan & Bros Ltd.
The participants are introduced to the growing legal requirement and the training session will discuss in detail about the obligation under various environ- mental laws and customer requirements in the auto- motive industry around the globe. The program will help participants understand on how to monitor their production processes and ensure that their products comply with RoHS, WEEE, ELV directives, REACH, Type approval, Conflict Minerals and other regulations using the tool IMDS.
For those who are new to International Material Data System (IMDS) system and for those who are struggling with data fields and complexities of the IMDS system, the training will enhance the partici- pants understanding of IMDS system and how the product data will flow though the system. The partici- pants will be familiar with the concepts and definitions of the IMDS and they will know how to create their product data sheet in the system.
About the Course
Environmental regulations have forced Global OEM’s to change the way business done in profound and permanent ways. Now, OEM’s are required to document all materials and all substances in every single component and the recycled content in it for every single product they want to sell. Various legisla- tions like End of Life Vehicle (ELV) Directive, REACH, ROHS, WEEE triggered a massive data-gathering ef- fort throughout the global supply chain. Since the pur- chased parts account for over 60% of total vehicle value and Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) expect their supply base to provide the data necessary for calculating vehicle recyclability and to ensure com- pliance with the ELV directive and other obligation set up on the manufacture.
As a first step, rather than imposing different reporting format, OEM’s has decided to have a single reporting medium like International Material Data Sys- tem (IMDS). IMDS System consists of a centralized, automated application and database that is accessible globally via a Web-based portal. The system captures data from suppliers and distributes it to an Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) in the form of stan- dardized data sheets and interfaces. It enables supply base to create material data sheets on your computer in a secure and comfortable manner. IMDS is the one of the best possible mean to meet the obligations placed on car manufacturers, and thus on their suppli- ers, by national, international standards, laws and regulations. Thus IMDS system is critical for providing the data necessary for calculating vehicle recyclability and it will ensure that the product will comply with the ELV directive and other obligation set up on the manu- facture.
Who should attend?
The training focuses on participants from automotive and electronic industry. Departments may include but are not limited to those who are involved to ensure Quality, Environmental and Occupational Health requirements for regulated substances, recyclability, recycled content, and other related regulation set by the Customer & Government (e.g. Quality Manager, Product development engineer, Vendor development engineer, Material Engineer, Purchase, Customer business group, IMDS Coordinators, Corporate Environmental, Health, Safety and Toxicology staff etc.)
Note: IMDS training is recommended for anyone new to the IMDS system and for those who are struggling with the data fields and complexities of the system.
